Jamie Overton added to squad for Oval Test
28 July 2025
The fast-bowling allrounder has played only one Test in his career so far
Jamie Overton, the pace bowling all-rounder, has been added to England's 15-player squad, announced by the England and Wales Cricket Board on Monday, for the fifth Test match of the ongoing series against India.
Overton will be the sixth frontline pacer in the squad, which already boasts of Jofra Archer, Chris Woakes, Josh Tongue, Gus Atkinson and Brydon Carse. His addition comes on the back of skipper Ben Stokes' admission that England needed fresh legs ahead of the final game. Stokes himself has visibly expressed discomfort on the field a few times, Chris Woakes has played all four Tests despite making a comeback from an ankle injury and Jofra Archer, returning to the Test fold after four years, has featured in the last two Tests.
Overton has played only a solitary Test in his career so far, three years ago against New Zealand. The fifth Test is set to begin at The Oval from July 31. England currently lead the series 2-1 after the fourth Test at Old Trafford ended in a draw on Sunday.
: Ben Stokes (Captain), Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, Zak Crawley, Liam Dawson, Ben Duckett, Jamie Overton, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jamie Smith, Josh Tongue, Chris Woakes
